IMWA prohibits sale of ‘Tari’

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) has prohibited the sale of ‘Gandhi Puk’, an insect locally known as ‘Tari’, after more than 50 persons have reportedly taken ill after eating the insects. The sick people been admitted in RK Mission Hospital here for treatment.

IMWA appealed to all not to buy or sale the insect which may cause serious health problems. Violators would be booked under appropriate section of the law, IMWA cautioned.

 

Kena inaugurates Siloni Primary school

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: Deputy Speaker Jomde Kena inaugurated Siloni Government Primary School, West Siang District today.

On the occasion, he highlighted various government schemes and programme under the present government.

Meanwhile, responding to a memorandum submitted by the people of the area, Kenna assured to undertake construction of approach road from Jiadal River to Siloni village from his MLALAD fund and regarding construction of flood protection work at Siloni river, he assured to take-up the proposal with the government.

‘Protect women and girl child  from social evils’

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: A pledge taking ceremony was organized at Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalalaya (VKV) here by Art of Living (AOL) Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with UNICEF to protect the girl child from child marriage, domestic violence/abuse, stop female foeticide, malnutrition and promote education of girl.

Addressing the students and staff of the school, Rajaque Rahman, a full time worker of AoL, urged one and all to shoulder the responsibility to protect the girl child and women from the atrocities and evil practices prevailing in the society.

Mitra Agarwal, also from AoL, led the students and staff in taking the pledges.

 

TCS participates in Podi Barbi festival

MECHUKA, Dec 7: The members of Tagin Cultural Society (TCS) participated in the  in the Podi Barbi  festival celebration at Mechuka town here on Dec 5.

Many representative from other tribe including Tagins residing in Mechuka participated the cultural programme.

Attending the cultural competition in the evening, Tabu Paktung, president of Tagin Cultural Society said that festival  is not only for particular community but it is being  celebrated for wellbeing of all the  human being in the world. Therefore everyone should take part in the festival, he added.

He said the festival provides best platform for every community to promote their rich cultural heritage, adding  that such best platform  should be used to exchange and understand each others’ culture  and heritage.

Foundation day celebration

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: The members of All Tali Area Students Union (ATASU) celebrated its 32nd foundation day on 5th of this month at Papu Nallah, Naharlagun. The members of AAPSU, ANSU and various other student organizations joined the celebration. A volleyball tournament was organized to mark the occasion in which AKKDSU emerged as champion.

 

NES-ANSU meet held

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: Deeply concerned over the burgeoning election expenditure in the past and in view of the ensuing general election of All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) in 2014, the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) convened a joint executive body meeting of both the organizations under the chairmanship of NES president Bengia Tolum here today.

It was decided in the joint meeting that the detailed election code of conduct, modalities including expenditure control guidelines would be framed and enforced by the Election Commission to be constituted in the next NES-ANSU joint meeting. The NES-ANSU executive body would be the overall controlling authority for the entire election process, the meeting resolved. Further, for the first time, the election under the district quota system would be conducted in the district level by the Election Commission.

Both NES-ANSU jointly appealed the political figures, business class, parents, relatives & friends of the contesting candidates, officers and all the constituent members of the community to co-operate in its endeavor and not to support any financial assistance to the aspirants in ANSU election so as to reap dedicated community services from whoever comes elected in ANSU.

 

NNA foundation day celebrated

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: The 7th foundation day of Nyishi Nyem Acham (NNA) was celebrated at Raga on December 5.

There was glittering gathering from all walks of life.   Boni Nato delivered the welcome speech.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, NNA president has emphasized on girl education and called upon literate women to guide and motivate the parents and guardians to send their girl child to school.

The NNA general secretary appealed to parents and community leaders to treat girl child equally with boy and educate them properly.

CM lays foundation stone of 576 houses under RAY

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki laid the foundation stone for construction of rental housing of 576 units under Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) at Dokoso near state zoo here today initiating the first such project in the state to be implemented by urban development and town planning department. The chief minister also laid the foundation stone for construction of flats for senior government officers (Type-IV and V) and G+ 5 model phases-I in Capital Complex.

Tuki, who was accompanied by UD Minister Rajesh Tacho, Land Management Parliamentary Secretary Padi Richo, local MLA Techi Kaso and senior officers, including UD Secretary Indra Mallo, said that completion of these projects would solve accommodation problem of the state government employees besides the civil society looking for cheaper accommodation in the Capital Complex.

The RAY project would provide housing to those living below the poverty line and labourers on nominal rental basis while the other project would solve the acute accommodation problem of 90 senior government officers.

The Rs 4431.2 lakh RAY project including internal road, community centre, livelihood centre, storm water drains, landscaping and boundary wall with 10 per cent funding from the state government is targeted for completion within 24 months, UD Director Tedir informed the CM.

The other project at an estimated cost of Rs 7000 lakh with 10 per cent state government funding would provide lift and fire fighting system, overhead reservoir, landscaping, sewerage system  and septage management, storm water drainage system, power and water supply and retaining wall.

Meanwhile, the CM on his way inspected the Rural Bank where a major bank robbery took place on December 5 last and took stock of the situation.

 

 

APPDSU exposes pathetic condition of education sector

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: At a time when state education department is striving hard to transform Arunachal into pulsating hub of knowledge pursuit,   the All Papum Pare District Students Union (APPDSU) portrayed a pathetic scenario of education sector in the state.

Armed with RTI papers, the APPDSU said that there is shortage of free text books up to the elementary level. “Text book were distributed to schools but not sufficient in numbers. Very surprisingly in the year 2012-13 no text book was distributed in spite of fund received from the Govt of India,” the union claimed.

Referring to the Annual Operating Plan of Directorate of School Education for 2013-14, the union said that state Govt. is unable to release adequate fund for the procurement of text book (NCERT&CBSE) for class I to XII. The fund for the text book is estimated to the tune of Rs 1700 lakh, but fund provision kept in the draft AOP for 2013-14 is only Rs 1400 lakh with short fall of Rs 300 lakh, the Union alleged.

Regarding school uniform, the APPDSU said uniforms for all girls and children belonging to SC/ ST/ BPL families was distributed to some of the schools  but  the uniform supplied was not in proper size, therefore is of no use.

The APPDSU further alleged that no fund has been earmarked in the budget allocation for 2013-14 for infrastructural development/maintenance and renovation of school buildings. The education department fervently requires fund to the tune of Rs. 1200 lakh for renovation and construction of additional class rooms, boundary wall, approach road to the schools and teacher training institutions (DIETs), it said.  The   Union claimed that 525 MIBT School Buildings, 741 MIBT Hostels Buildings (Boys& Girls), 480 MIBT/OBT Teachers Quarters and 75 SPT Science Lab Buildings of Govt. Hr. Secondary / Secondary / Middle Schools are lying in dilapidated condition due to non-availability of fund. Alleging that Govt has totally failed in implementation of Computer Aided Learning (CAL) programme for the students from Class six to eight, the  Union said that most of the schools in Papum Pare district were not supplied any computer equipment and some were not functioning due to damage and absence of IT instructor. The contractor failed to maintain the agreement signed under the CAL programme. Now the project is being stopped by the SPD Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, State Rajya Mission and it is a complete wastage of project money, it said.

Revealing that the department had constructed as many as 4084 numbers of kitchens sheds under mid-day meal scheme (MDMS) with 100% central assistance during financial year 2006-07 to 2007-08, the APPDSU claimed that most of the bamboo-made kitchen sheds are lying in dilapidated condition.

The Departments required Rs. 4500 lakh for renovation /reconstruction of kitchen sheds but state Govt. could not able to allocate fund for the purpose, the Union said adding that provision for all weather kitchens cum stores with fire safety provision is mandatory as per the Supreme Court order and the RTE Act. 2009.

On students’ stipend, the Union said that requirement of stipend for financial year 2013-14 come to the tune of Rs. 3377.50 lakhs but only Rs. 3100 lakh has been kept in AOP 2013-14 with a deficit of Rs. 277.50 lakh and pending liabilities of 2012-13 is Rs. 346.00 Lakh.

Lastly, the student’s body said though the SSA teachers are performing their duties sincerely, they are deprived of regular salary. Sometimes they have to wait for 6 to 7 months for their salaries, it said.3

 

 

Sensitization programme on weekly iron folic acid supplementation

ROING, Dec 7: One day Sensitization Programme on Weekly Iron Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFS) programme was held to sensitize the School Nodal Teachers of Hunli and Roing Block at Anchal Samiti Hall here today.  The training programme was organized by District Health Society under the aegis of National Rural Health Mission, Roing.

Highlighting about WIFS and other school health programmes under NRHM through power point presentation, Dr M Basar, DRCHO Roing informed that WIFS  is a free of cost health programme given by the Government. Goals of WIFS are to improve human capacity and productivity, to increase  school  attendance and learning capacity, to eliminate gender disparity in secondary education, improved infant survival health and to reduce anemia related maternal deaths. Its ultimate aim is to build a healthy nation. The programme implementation includes intake of iron folic acid tablet once a week under supervision, de-worming with Albendazole 400 mg tablets every six months, screening children for anemia and further referral,  information and counselling about iron rich foods and anemia prevention. He further informed that IFA tablets are available free of cost in Govt. & aided schools and anganwadi centres.  He also highlighted about the achievement of the programme in the district till date.

DMO Dr Allok Yirang while appeale to the nodal teachers to extend their helping hand as in other health programme. While informing that the district is soon to get a Polio Free Certificate from WHO which are the ultimate result of the effort of teachers and doctors of the district since the beginning of Pulse Polio Immunization Programme from 1995 onwards. He further sought the same cooperation and efforts from the teaching fraternity which would bring a good fruit in terms of healthy society in the long run. He exhorted them that your little effort in this programme would not go in vain but will definitely bring successful result though it may take time.

DDSE M Lego, also exhorted the nodal teachers present to implement the programme in toto saying that teachers are the only person which can reach to every nook and corners where no other departments can reach. He said, “since we are in direct touch with the target groups, we much accept the responsibility to implement it sincerely”.  Expressing serious concern over the absent of some nodal teachers in the sensitization programme, he said to initiate stern disciplinary action against the absentee teachers.

Attending the inaugural session Sandeep Kr Singh also called upon the nodal doctors and teachers to implement the programme in letter and spirit. He further emphasized on counselling through face to face interaction especially by the lady teachers to the adolescent boys and girls which are mostly the victims of anemia deficiency and added that if we can make the adolescent healthy than only we can hope for a healthy society in days to come.

DA constitutes panel to enquire into allegation of selling PDS rice at high rate

ECCEKD organizes peaceful protest rally

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: East Kameng district authority has constituted a 3-member committee headed by EAC Akan Regon as the chairman to enquire into the allegation of selling PDS rice at high rates in the district by the Fair Price Shop (FPS) holders and also the involvement of officers, if any, in the mismanagement.  The committee will submit its report to the deputy commissioner within 20 days with December six being the first day, the order said.

In another order, the DC, in view of the alleged violation of agreements by the FPS holders and also complaints lodged by Every Concern Citizen of East Kameng District (ECCEKD), has directed the Whole Sale Nominee of PDS items of East Kameng to issue PDS items directly to the public through Co-operatives till further order. Further, Ainstein Koyu, EAC, Seppa has been directed to supervise the distribution of PDS rice.

Earlier in the morning yesterday, ECCEKD organized a peaceful mass rally to protest against selling of PDS rice at high rate at Seppa allegedly by FPS holders.

This rally was led by general secretary Dadi Sonam, chairman Sollung Dodum and legal advisor Chandra Sono Yangfo of ECCEKD. It was taken out from Police Station Seppa to Bebo Colony at 7 am.

Later, the protesters, including representatives from ECCEKD, colony chairmen/ secretaries held meeting with the deputy commissioner and the DFCSO and discussed about the alleged malpractice by the FPS holders. The meeting after a marathon discussion adopted few resolutions to check the alleged mismanagement in FPS, claimed an ECCEKD release.

The meeting resolved that PDS rice should be distributed through co-operative system only under supervision of an EAC and CO; and action, including cancellation of licence, would be taken against those FPS holders, who are found indulging in such malpractices by the inquiry committee.

“Adulteration of POL item should be checked and appropriate action taken against violators,” the meeting further resolved.

Other resolutions included immediate publication of rate of all PDS items, immediate checking of rate of SK/Oil by the EAC and DFCSO and submission of report for further necessary action, identification of building/sites for selling of PDS items under the super vision of the EAC/town magistrate.

 

 

Consumer awareness campaign held at Mebo

PASIGHAT, Dec 7: In continuation of its endeavor to make the common consumer alert and well informed of the products and services, the Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Affairs, East Siang district unit conducted a day-long exhibition cum consumer awareness campaign at Doying Kumdang Hall, Mebo yesterday.

Attending the inaugural function, Mebo Additional Deputy Commissioner O Dai suggested people to spend their hard earned money judiciously and to take care while buying consumer goods from the market.

Though local people are largely dependent on agricultural products yet they procure 80 percent of their daily requirements from market, he observed and cautioned people not to buy spurious products which are harmful to health. He also suggested people to buy quality products. Expressing gratitude to East Siang Deputy Commissioner and the Department of Legal Metrology, Pasighat for choosing Mebo for holding the awareness campaign, he appealed them to conduct similar programme in other part of his jurisdiction in near future.

Earlier, KP Tago, Assistant Controller, department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs, East Siang while briefing on aim and objectives of the campaign has highlighted some of the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act under which consumer courts are set up in District called District Forum.

He observed that due to lack of awareness, people of Arunachal are not bringing their grievances to Consumer court for redressal despite the same is at their doorstep in every district HQ and asked people to seek advice from Legal Metrology office as and when necessary particularly on problems concern to them as the consumer.

Informing that a numbers of Arunachalee students have been cheated in past few years by the fake educational institutions, A Taba, Inspector Legal Metrology asked parents to gather basic information of the institution before giving admission of their wards.

While briefing on consumer rights and duties, he asked people to cooperate with department for effective implementation of the consumer protection laws in the district and to safeguard their rights and interests.

Panchayat members including both the ZPM of Mebo sub-division, head of Departments, officer, GB, students and general public attended the inaugural function and visited the exhibition.

Students of GHSS Mebo, who have been trained the previous day, demonstrated consumer products of various categories like product standardization, food adulteration, imported goods, credibility of discount sales etc.

 

 

First pharmacist Tana passes away

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: Nyishi Ekha Tana (60) of Rono Village, the first Pharmacist from the Nyishi community died at his residence yesterday after prolonged illness.

Late Tana was born on 2nd of October 1953. He did his schooling from Govt Secondary School, Doimukh and has done Diploma in Pharmacist.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, one daughter, a brother and grandchildren.

He was appointed as Pharmacist on 19th January 1979 and posted at remote Kalagoan village of Tirap district and retired as Pharmacist on 31st October 2011, from the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

The mortal remains of the deceased shall be laid to rest in the forenoon on the December 8 at Rono village, Doimukh.

Apart from being Pharmacist, he was also the founder Convener of the Nyishi Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society (NIFCS), Priest cum founder member of Nyedar Namlo Movement and actively played role in the social awareness programme on the educational and cultural development of the downtrodden people in the society.

Meanwhile, the members of Arunachal Pradesh Chemist and Druggist Association, family and relatives mourned the demise of Tana and prayed almighty God for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

In the meantime, the entire medical store within Itanagar Capital Complex remained closed today from 11 am to 3 pm as a mark of respect to the departed soul. However, the medical stores run under cooperative society at RK Mission Hospital, Itanagar and General Hospital Naharlagun remained opened in order to serve the needy people.

The Arunachal Pradesh Pharmacy Council (APPC), under Directorate of Health Service (DHS), Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh also deeply mourns the demise of  Nyishi Ekha Tana, who was also an elected member of the Pharmacy Council of the State since 2012.

He was very lovable and popular person, and was loved my all medical staffs and patient alike where ever he was posted. He was also felicitated last year  by Arunachal Pradesh Pharmacy Council (APPC) in recognition of his tireless services to ailing community as a pharmacist.

APPC has lost one of the most resourceful person, who happens to be one of the pioneer, a patron and a guide to the existing Pharmacy Council. His demised is a great loss to its family members, State Pharmacy Council and state as a whole.

The ranks and file of state pharmacy council prays almighty for the eternal peace of the departed soul bestows enough strength to the bereaved family members to bear irreparable loss.

 

 

Training on bee keeping held at Sille

RUKSIN, Dec 7: In a bid to promote apiculture as well as generate employment through environment friendly activities, the Textile and Handicraft department of East Siang district today organized training on bee keeping with demonstration at Sille Sericulture Farm, at 12 km east from here.

Inaugurating the training, Assistant Director of Textile & Handicraft of Pasighat, Taku Tath suggested the participating farmers to acquire technical knowledge of bee-keeping and enhance their economy through honey rearing along with other horticultural activities.

Addressing the inaugural function, Sille-Oyan ZPM Tazing Taki urged the farmers to adopt proper planning on their professional works for economic gain. He suggested the farmers to work hard and adopt modern technologies in agriculture and allied activities for high production, he said.

The programme was followed by a technical session, wherein the development officer (DO) of Sille Sericulture Farm, Talong Tadeng imparted training on bee keeping and management to the participants.

Tadeng explained different aspects of apiculture including arrangement of honey hive (box), feeding of the honey bees, extraction of honey produces, transferring of honey queen and other technical know-how with practical demonstration. He also explained on food and medicinal value of natural honey besides its different usage in cosmetic and tobacco industries.

The DO, in course of training informed that the bee keeping unit of the farm gives an average of 200 to 250 litres of honey worth Rs. 75,000. The office has own processing unit to process the honey products before releasing it to the market. A retail outlet has also been opened inside the farm to sell their honey produces.

According to the DO, climatic condition of the state is favourable for rearing three honey bee species- Apis dorseta (Rock Bee), Apis cenera (Indian Bee) and Apis florae (Little Indian Bee) are feasible to rear in the hilly state. But Apis melifera (European Bee/ Western Bee) needs intensive care to adopt in temperate and sub-temperate zones.

A total 30 rural farmers from Mebo, Pasighat, Sille-Oyan and Ruksin circles of the district participated in the day-long training.

The day-long intensive training on bee rearing and its management was sponsored by Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) under its Extension Reforms Scheme for the year 2013-14.

The Himalayan state with sufficient forest cover has variable climatic zones and its rich flora and fauna is feasible for horticulture, floriculture, apiculture and other agro based activities.

 

 

Seva Dal cadres urged to work for communal harmony

ITANAGAR, Dec 7: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today exhorted the cadres of Congress Seva Dal to work for communal harmony in the society to pave the way for peace and progress.

Addressing the valedictory function of the week-long Congress Seva Dal (CSD) training camp at Naharlagun which he had inaugurated here on December 1 last, Tuki said the Seva Dal formed 128-year ago has proved to be the best soldiers of the mother organization. Therefore, the cadres could play a vital role in maintaining social harmony, fight against social evils like drug and liquor addiction and anti-social activities.

Terming the camp as one of the best organized and disciplined ones in the country which recorded participation of 1,047 trainees including 494 women from eight North East states, the chief minister advocated that Seva Dal could act like party’s civil defence forces like home guard.

The Congress has been providing service to the masses as and when required, Tuki said and called upon the cadres to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.

Describing 123-year-old Congress party as a big family making its presence felt in every corner of India, Tuki said that Congress was alone capable of delivering the goods.

Camp commandant PA Gurung and APCSD chief organiser Taki Taba also addressed the gathering attended by senior party leaders including UD Minister Rajesh Tacho, Land Management Parliamentary Secretary Padi Richi, local MLA Techi Kaso, APMCC president Yari Dulom and APYC vice president Nyamar Karbak.

 

 

2nd Nyari Welly Memorial Women Football Tournament 2013 begins

Capital Complex thrash East Siang 7-0

ITANAGAR, Dec 07: Capital Complex Sporting Club (CCSC) thrashed East Siang eves 7-0 in a lopsided opening match of the 2nd Nyari Welly Memorial State Level Women Football Tournament 2013 at Rajiv Gandhi, Stadium, Naharlagun today.

Capital Complex SC opened the score in 5th minute through goal from Tako Baby. Techi Amin doubled it in 18th minute before Rosni Ramching made it 3-0 in the 20 minute. CCSC was leading 3-0 in the breather.

The second half saw complete domination by CCSC as Tako Baby (39th minute), Techi Amin (51st and 57th min) and Rosni Ramching (64th min)  scored at will to complete the drubbing of the team.

Techi Amin donning jersey number 12 scored the first hatrick of the tournament.

Earlier, in the inaugural ceremony, Arunachal Pradesh State Social Welfare Board Chairperson Nido Marina in her speech stressed on education of girl child. She also advocated for active participation of women in all games and sport activities and advised the participating teams maintain discipline and sportsman spirit.

Former minister Yari Dulom urged the state government to provide necessary fund for organizing games and sports especially for women.

Grandson of Nyari Welly Akung Welly he recalled about the life history of late Nyari Welly.

Tadar Yadar, Chairperson Tang Foundation Multipurpose Society and Chief Information Commissioner of Arunachal Pradesh YD Thongchi, Health Minister Atum Welly, son of Nyari Welly, were also present in the inaugural function.

The organizer gave away memento with incentives to Rosni Ramching for scoring the first ever goal for Arunachal Pradesh in U-16 national level football tournament under. She achieved the feat in the recently concluded tournament at Cuttack, Orissa.

IVth Techi Taram Memorial Cricket Tournament begins

SAGALEE Dec 7: The IVth edition of late Techi Taram Memorial Cricket Tournament begins today at Sagalee.

In the inaugural match Dadang Panchayat Cricket Club beat Staff Sports Club Sagalee by a comfortable margin.

Altogether 16 team are vying for the coveted title. The overall champion will be richer by Rs. 50,000 cash prize and a trophy.

Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Nabam Yani  in presence of senior officers, public and Panchayat leaders, youth and students.

Late Techi Taram was born at Karoi Village. He attain legendary figure by virtue of his hard work and dynamic personality. He earned his name and fame by rescuing the American Fighter Pilot whose parachute had struck up in the tree top in a mission to rescue the injured personnel whose plane had crashed at Karoi, Sagalee somewhere in 1942. Lt Techi Taram not only rescued the injured Pilot but also carried the patient upto Doimukh and than Lokra under Tezpur Assam. The British India Government recognising his heroic deed appointed him as Political Interpreter. Late Techi Taram was recipient of President Gold Medal and Governor Gold Medal during his life time.
